Patching

Potholes and extensive cracking in your blacktop are not only unsightly, they can cause vehicle damage, as well as bodily injury. Once a pothole has occurred it must be professionally repaired. Similarly, settling and erosion can cause further damages to your lot over time, but can be patched to keep your lot fresh and safe - without having to replace the whole thing.

Asphalt Patching and Pothole Repair

Black Pearl serves Fort Collins and the Northern Colorado area providing asphalt patching and pothole repair services that stand the test of time. Potholes and severely cracked areas of asphalt surface are best addressed with patching methods outlined below.

Rotomill Patching

This is a special type of patching designed to remove a particularly damaged area of pavement. A skid steer with a rotomill attachment grinds out the damaged asphalt. It is picked up and hauled away for recycling. The surface is swept and cleaned with forced air. Tack oil is applied to the mating surfaces. New “Hot Mix” asphalt is placed and mechanically compacted, forming a very strong patch at a reasonable price.

Remove and Replace

The damaged asphalt is mechanically removed to the existing base. It is then hauled away for recycling. The base is inspected, leveled, and compacted. New “Hot Mix” asphalt is placed and compacted in 2” lifts. While this process is more expensive, it is the strongest form of asphalt patching we offer.

Infrared (IR) Patching

This type of patching is designed to quickly repair lightly damaged asphalt. A special infrared heater is applied to existing asphalt, in order to heat it to a re-shapable temperature. A small amount of new hot mix is added to the existing asphalt. This method is more efficient and cost-effective for small repairs than other forms of patching might be, but is not the right repair for every type of damage.
